Whether you’re summiting high passes, learning wilderness skills, or engaging with remote communities, this expedition will leave you more confident, more aware, and ready to lead in any environment.
Your expedition begins in the Kumaon Himalayas, a stunning region renowned for its towering peaks, ancient forests, and vibrant culture. You’ll hike through forests of oak, maple, and rhododendron, along paths once used by traders traveling between India and Tibet. As you trek across high-altitude passes, gaining and losing up to 2,000 feet of elevation a day, you’ll experience both the thrill and challenge of wilderness travel.
Along the way, you’ll visit remote villages where life moves to the rhythms of agriculture powered by cattle and water buffalo. These moments of cultural connection will offer insights into a way of life far removed from modern conveniences, teaching you the importance of respect, empathy, and adaptability.
This expedition will equip you with a blend of technical and interpersonal skills that will serve you long after the course ends. Some of the core areas of focus include:
• Backpacking Techniques: Master navigation, cooking, camp setup, and Leave No Trace principles.
• Leadership and Decision-Making: Learn how to lead in complex situations, balancing individual decisions with group needs.
• Risk Management: Develop the judgment to assess hazards and keep your team safe in dynamic environments.
• Cultural Competence: Engage meaningfully with local communities, building connections and broadening your perspective.

Unpredictable Weather: In the Himalayas, weather can shift dramatically. Temperatures range from 100°F to freezing, and conditions can swing from bright sun to snow and rain within a day. Learning to stay comfortable and safe in these variable conditions will test your adaptability and teach you how to manage challenges calmly and effectively.
Rugged Terrain and Physical Endurance: Traveling through the Himalayas means crossing rivers, scrambling over boulder fields, and ascending steep passes. With a 35-45 lb. pack on your back, you’ll work hard each day, but you’ll also discover strengths you never knew you had. The physical challenges will push you beyond your limits, helping you develop endurance, mental toughness, and self-confidence.
Remoteness and Self-Reliance: In the wilderness, there are no shortcuts. The nearest medical facilities may be days away, and you’ll be far from the conveniences of modern life. This environment will teach you how to rely on yourself and your team, making every small success a celebration and every challenge an opportunity to grow.
