Born in Australia, where he grew up sailing off the beaches of Adelaide, Alan is an '85 NOLS Alaska Semester grad who started as an instructor in '86. In addition to spearheading the creation of NOLS Australia and chasing logistics for the NOLS Pacific Northwest, he's taught many sea kayaking and over 40 sailing courses around the world. Alan lives in Philadelphia with his wife and three kids. His dream vacations are a road trip with family and friends, sailing in the Pacific, skiing in the Rockies, visiting wineries in Australia and France, exploring castles and distilleries in Scotland and laughing at every opportunity.
