Justin (aka Doro) grew up between lush tobacco fields and ever-expanding suburbia in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. After getting a Master’s Degree in Outdoor Education in Georgia, he started teaching for NOLS Wilderness Medicine in 2009 and worked as a paramedic in North Carolina and Maine. He has over two decades of professional outdoor experience, from rock guiding and backpacking to caving and whitewater. After attending medical school at the University of New England, he is now an emergency medicine resident physician at UT Health San Antonio and focuses his interests on wilderness medicine, medical education, and figuring out if he’ll ever have time to sleep again.
