Lance Taysom has many fun jobs: teaching wilderness medicine, outdoor living, and survival skills, caring for patients on a rescue helicopter and in the hospital emergency department, and working search & rescue on Denali. Lance enjoys blending his knowledge and experience in emergency and remote medicine with a lifetime of outdoor adventuring. Lance loves people and observing how every individual uses his or her life experience to create their unique learning style. Helping someone grow from new experiences and practice increased confidence as they assess and manage patients, in all kinds of situations, is a highly rewarding challenge.

Lance began teaching for NOLS Wilderness Medicine in 1994. He values the dynamic nature of a research based curriculum and enjoys working with the talented instructors who live what they teach. Lance enjoys being home with family and also loves traveling and working in all the spectacular locations with all the quality people who teach and learn at NOLS.
